Among those on the ground (and in the water) offering help in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey are commercial dive crews. The Triton reports that Commercial Diver Services from Fort Lauderdale, Florida was one such crew that traveled to Texas to offer assistance. Commercial dive crews join volunteer and government dive rescue teams in the Harvey relief efforts. Dive teams from as far away as Billings, Montana and Milwaukee, Wisconsin are making the trek.
Even after rescue efforts are no longer needed, commercial dive crews will likely play a continued role in Hurricane Harvey recovery by offering retrieval and cleanup services. Commercial diving companies can provide highly trained specialists who can get the job done safely.
Although commercial diving teams have helped rescue others during the hurricane, one commercial diving vessel needed to be rescued by the Coast Guard, the Associated Press reports. A dozen people onboard the dive boat were airlifted to safety.
